  • 2008.5.10 Zimmer Mother’s Day Photoshoot

    I’m updating from my sister’s apartment in San Francisco right now- my parents are both crashing on the couch, so I decided to pp some of the images that I had left sitting in my HDD.

    This first update was an awesome opportunity that I had, to do a Mother’s Day photoshoot for David and Carolyn Zimmer, who are also attenders of CFC at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign. They are new parents of their son, John, who is only 10 months old. This was my first family photoshoot, and my first time working with children during a shoot- I definitely learned a lot!

  • 2008.5.3 April Cho Band Shoot

    well, I’m pretty much done with my college career.
    one year and one semester as a math major
    one summer, wanting to be a nursing major
    three years and one semester as an industrial and enterprise systems engineering major

    i’m currently unemployed, and i’ll be graduating on the 11th of may, 2008

    hopefully, this will be the end of my educational career- i think i’m done with exams and such

    in this period of being unemployed, i’ll actually be considering pursuing photography as a more serious source of income, and hopefully, we’ll see a portfolio in the few weeks after i get back from traveling to san fransisco and boston

    which leads me to my current summer plans-
    may 11th; graduation commencement (and for all of those who have forgotten, it’s also mother’s day)
    may 12th; leaving for san fransisco
    may 22nd; coming back to champaign
    may 24th; leave for chicago and crash at david lai’s place
    may 25th; leave for boston for a wedding shoot with david lai
    may 28th; return to chicago
    may 20-something?; come back to champaign

    apart from that; i’m just going to be- chillaxing? well, more seriously, i’ll be continuing my job search

    and with that; i give you- what this post was originally intended to be, before i started rambling- which i actually haven’t done here for a long time

    April Cho Band Shoot;
    these guys were nice enough to be my guinea pigs for my lighting equipment- i got my lighting stuff about a month or two ago, but never had time to test it out

    full coverage at: leungduncan.zenfolio.com/

    2x
    Bogen / Manfrotto 001B 6′ STAND w/RETRACT LEGS/015 – BLK – BO001B
    1x
    Westcott 43″ UMBRELLA (SOFT SILVER/BLK BACKING) – WEU43SS
    1x Canon Speedlite 580EX I (shooting into the reflective umbrella)
    1x Canon Speedlite 430EX (shooting through a gary fong, cloud)
    1x Gary fong, Cloud
    1x ST-E2 Speedlite trigger
    Canon 24mm f/1.4L
    Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L

    so what i learned from this session-
    - the 24L does not focus well in low light at all, even with the ST-E2 (which is really weird); i messed up the solo shots for two of the band members when we were shooting in the basement (sorry guys!)
    - i don’t understand ETTL at all
    - i want to try out pocket wizards

    till next time-
    will probably be posting from SF in the coming weeks,

    awesome shoot opp. that i had for April Cho’s band for Illinites;
    it was also the debut of my new lens, 24mm f/1.4L; it’s such a sweetheart

    i also had an interesting time processing these images since the stage lights were pretty crazy,
    and i didn’t really want to make the set all in black&white

    the practice shots were taken with the 24L, and i shot the performance mostly with the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS right up at the foot of the stage.

    i’ve still yet to test out my lighting and umbrella setup;
    any takers?

    i apologize for the over-use of the fishy
    david lai and alex roy currently have my 24-70L
    and christina had my 1.6x crop 30D which i was going to use with the fishy; and she also had my 16-35L

  • the struggle::

    Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand
    against the devil’s schemes

    (Ephesians 6:11)

    …Jesus has broken the power and bondage
    of Satan over human lives. Those who individually receive and
    acknowledge this are set free to live in the freedom and liberty
    of the children of God.

    They are not set free to live unto themselves. They are set free
    in order to battle. That is the call that comes to all Christians.
    We are not set free in order to enjoy ourselves. We are set free
    to do battle, to engage in the fight, to overcome in our own
    lives, and to become the channels by which others are set free.
    How do you do this? Paul’s answer is in one phrase: “Put on the
    whole armor of God.” Full provision has been made that you might
    win in this battle. This is the amazing thing we must learn.
    God has made full provision for us to fight these forces that
    hold the world in their grip.

    “Father, tear away the delusive veils by which I have allowed
    myself to be rendered powerless in this great battle. Help me
    to understand that I would have no possibility of fighting were
    it not for the delivering work of the Lord Jesus, who has come
    to bind the power of darkness”
